Honda City

Honda City

The latest Honda City has made its long-awaited Singapore bow at a launch event held on 27 May, with the car having gone on sale in neighbouring countries such as Thailand and Malaysia since earlier this year. The latest fourth-generation version of the City has been completely revamped, and boasts of better space all-round as well as new technologies to move the car up into a class above.

Just one version of the new City will be available at initial launch, being the 1.5-litre base model, and the car is priced at $113,900, inclusive of COE, which puts it on par with its fellow Thai-built rival, the Toyota Vios. However, Honda says that the City will be better equipped, and therefore better value for money that its rival. According to Mr Nicholas Wong, General Manager of local Honda distributor Kah Motor, reception to the new car has been ‘encouraging’, ahead of the car’s public launch and first deliveries this weekend, and Honda expects the City to capture a significant part of the new car market ahead of an anticipated dip in COE prices over the coming months.

Standard features on the new City include a 7-inch touch screen infotainment system that incorporates a multi-angle rear view camera, and the ability to connect a user’s iPhone to the system via the car’s HondaLink iOS app platform. There are also numerous ports, including two USB, one HDMI and three power outlets, throughout the cabin, ensuring that occupants can charge their mobile devices while on the go. The City also comes with a keyless entry and keyless go (with engine push-start button), and a multi-function steering wheel with audio and Bluetooth controls, as well as paddle shifters for the gearbox, and Hill Start Assist, which brakes the car momentarily while the car is on an incline, and helps the car move off smoothly after.

The new City has also grown in size overall, with a notable increase in wheelbase by 50mm over the outgoing model to 2,600mm, translating into more interior room for occupants. It also boasts of a commodious 536-litre capacity boot, which Honda says can fit up to four 9-inch-wide golf bags with ease.

Under the bonnet, the new City is powered by a 1.5-litre SOHC i-VTEC petrol unit that’s been brought over from the previous model, and which produces 120bhp and 145Nm of torque. However, the engine is now paired with a new Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) with a 7-speed shift system, which helps to improve fuel economy by up to 13.6% according to Honda. Finalised figures are still subject to the Land Transport Authority’s approval, but the new City is claimed to be able to return an average fuel consumption figure of 5.7 litres per 100km, and emit just 135g/km of CO2, which qualifies the car for a $10,000 rebate under the Carbon Emissions-based Vehicle Scheme (CEVS).

iPhone 6

I-PHONE 6

The latest report of an iPhone 6 launch date follows earlier reports of Apple blocking retail store staff from taking holidays during the month of September due to the high level of interest in Apple's next-generation iPhone.

The leaked information was first reported by the German publication ApfelPage, which learned about the country's main mobile operator trying to woo customers whose contracts are on the verge of expiry, by leaking the iPhone 6 launch details.

Though Apple has not made any official announcement or revealed any hints about the iPhone 6 release date, a lot of factors indicate that the next iPhone will go on sale on 19 September.

This date is in line with the release patterns of Apple's last three iPhones: iPhone 5 (21 September), iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c (20 September).

It should also be noted that Apple typically favours Friday release dates for iPhones and iPad, and it just so happens that 19 September is also a Friday.

According to ApfelPage (Google translated), the iPhone 6 will be available with Apple Stores as well as Deutsche Telekom on the same day, 19 September, given the fact that Germany is usually among the first batch of markets alongside the US, Australia, Canada, China, France, Japan, Singapore and the UK to receive new iOS devices.

If the recent iOS release schedule strategy is any indication, we can expect Apple to unveil its highly-anticipated iOS 8 software featuring healthbook and fitness apps at its high-profile Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC 2014) from 2 June to 6 June in San Francisco.

LG G3 New model mobile

LG G3 FEATURES

As with last year’s model, the LG G3 features top-of-the-line specifications. At 5.5 inches, the G3 towers over its competition, making a strong case for the ever-increasing size of the flagship smartphone. Inside, the G3 contains a quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage.

The one thing LG seems to do better than any other Android phone maker is making an outstanding display. Once again, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a more stunningly bright, attractive screen than the one LG has placed in the G3. Trumping the Galaxy S5 (and just about every other Android phone on the market), the G3’s enormous 5.5-inch IPS LCD panel packs a resolution of 2560 × 1440 — that’s true quad HD. My seemingly ancient iPhone 5 couldn’t have looked any duller sitting next to the G3.

The additional 1 GB of RAM has made the G3 even faster than the G2, an already speedy device. Apps opened as quickly as I could tap on them, and the phone unlocked with a smooth animation every time.

LG L 80 DUAL SIM SMART PHONE

LG L 80 DUAL SIM SMART PHONE

Earlier in April this year, LG had officially announced the L80 dual SIM smartphone for Indonesia. Now LG India has quietly listed the handset on its official website for Rs 17,500. Note that the other two L III series handsets, LG L70 and the L90 are already available in India Rs 14,500 and Rs 17,499 respectively.

At Rs 17,500, the LG L80 Dual is indeed a bit costly considering its hardware. The phone has 5-inch display with 800x480 pixel resolution which looks pale in front of its rivals offering HD display. The L80 Dual runs on a dual-core 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 mobile processor paired with 1 GB RAM. This dual SIM handset supports one 3G network enabled SIM card inside.

Like the L70, the LG L80 runs on Android 4.4 KitKat OS with company's proprietary Optimus UI on top of it. The smartphone has a 5 megapixel rear camera, 4 GB expandable storage and a 2540 mAh battery. There is an LED flash in the rear panel as well. This dual-SIM smartphone comes with 3G, WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth 4.0 and FM radio. LG has incorporated the lockscreen unlocking feature - Knock Code in the L80 Dual as well.

Subaru WRX

Subaru WRX

The new WRX, and high-performance WRX STI variant, has been completely redeveloped from the ground up, and shares little with their respective predecessors. Powering the WRX is a new 2.0-litre flat-four Boxer engine that produces 268bhp and 350Nm of torque. This enables it to go from 0-100km/h in 6.3 seconds, and hit a top speed of 240km/h. For now, local cars will be offered with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) only, although a manual version is available for the WRX in other markets.

The WRX STI, meanwhile, packs a more powerful 2.5-litre turbocharged flat-four boxer engine which produces 300bhp and 407Nm of torque. This gives it a 0-100km/h sprint time of 5.2 seconds, and a top speed of 255km/h. Unlike the WRX, the STI is available only with a six-speed manual transmission, and it is for this reason that Motor Image expects the majority of sales to go to the WRX model.
At launch, the new Subaru WRX is tentatively priced at $187,400, including COE, while the WRX STI will retail for $207,400, inclusive of COE.

BGR published live photos of Amazon’s smart phone prototype

BGR - Amazon’s smart phone

Now BGR has exclusively obtained a new image of Amazon’s smart phone that reveals the handset’s design for the first time ever.

Amazon is still more than a month away from unveiling its first own-brand smart phone, but there isn’t much mystery that remains. BGR gave the world its first look at the unannounced handset in mid-April, and we followed up with exclusive details surrounding the phone’s unique 3D interface and gesture-based controls. Then we revealed that “Prime Data” will be one of the device’s key weapons in the crowded U.S. smart phone market.

When BGR published live photos of Amazon’s smart phone prototype for the first time, we noted that the device was covered by a protective housing designed to prevent unauthorized people from seeing the phone’s hardware. As a result, the phone’s physical appearance remained a mystery.

As BGR reported earlier, the device pictured here will be the first of several smart phones Amazon is planning to release, and it will be unveiled in the late spring or early summer.
Our sources tell us the device will feature specs including a 4.7-inch display with 720p HD resolution, a quad-core Qual comm Snapdragon processor, 2 GB of RAM, six individual camera modules, and a highly customized version of Google’s Android operating system similar to the one seen on Amazon’s various Kindle Fire tablets.

The first Amazon smart phone will also feature a novel interface with 3D effects enabled by four front-facing infrared cameras that track the position of the owner’s head in relation to the device’s screen. Coupled with some additional sensors, these cameras also facilitate unique gesture-based controls used to access menus and additional information.
